5 car check-ups that you can do by your self

When you are a car owner, you sure care about keeping it in the best possible condition not only for safety reasons but also to save on costs. We present you five pieces of advice regarding check-ups that you can do by yourself.

1. Check tire pressure

tire pressure

It is very important to pay attention to air pressure in your tires. Tire pressure is something that varies a lot, and the most common cause is change in outdoor temperature. Low tire pressure may affect your stability and breaking distance. Moreover, improperly inflated tires also affect fuel consumption and reduce their longevity. As friction between the tires and the surface increases, tires wear more quickly.

2. Replace worn-out wiper blades

Don’t forget to take a look at your wiper blades from time to time, because the rubber wears out no matter the brand. Once it begins to decay, the rubber becomes less elastic, it deforms and breaks. That way, the blades lose contact with the windshield, they don’t clean as they should and they produce unpleasant sounds. There is no way you can repair the wiper blades. The only solution is to replace them.

3. Check the lights

Do you ever think about checking your car’s lights? Probably not. However, we advise you to make light checking a part of your routine. Turn on the lights and see if all of them are working. Check the turn signals and parking lights. Turn the rear end of your car towards the wall, pull the foot brake and check the brake lights. If any of the bulbs has burned out, this problem is neither costly nor complex to solve.

4. Check oil level

oil level

One of the basic check-ups that needs to be done regularly is the oil level. If the level is too low, you engine may suffer severe damage. On the other hand, if you change oil and oil filters on a regular basis, your engine can endure more.

There are two factors that reduce the oil level, and these are standard combustion and leakage. The lamp on your dashboard will tell you when to change the oil. If you are not sure which oil type is right for your engine, our Lube advisor can help you.

Remember, it is much better for your engine not to add motor oil, but replace it completely.

5. Use adequate tires

Car maintenance during winter time sure can be exhausting, but no less than getting stuck half way to your destination. It is therefore necessary to use the right tires for the season. Don’t think that winter tires will serve you throughout the summer season as well. Tires made for cold conditions wear out during summer in no time. And that means wasted money for you.
